Tiger Shark: Dustbin of the Sea

 Tiger Sharks are known to be one of the biggest species of sharks all over the world. The largest one that is recorded to be measuring over 15 foot and weighing nearly 1100 pounds. These are strong with a torpedo-shaped body and have small and round snout big eyes.





The tiger sharks belong to the requiem species which is one of the largest known families of sharks. It consists of over 60 species which are mostly all-powerful and medium to large in size in shape. Some of the common Tiger Shark species include the Bull Shark, Blue Shark, Oceanic Whitetip, and the Silky Shark. All of these sharks are quite quick and ferocious hunters and have huge appetites.

Owing to the nature of their eating habits, tiger sharks are commonly called the ‘Dustbin of the Sea’. They can possibly eat anything with their notched teeth, which help them grab prey and shear it even with the thickest skin. They can easily feed on a variety of prey including sea snakes, crabs, clams, fish, squid, rays, sharks, seals, turtles, birds, dolphins, and even human rubbish! Items such as bottles, leather jackets, cans, license plates, and car tires have been found in the stomachs of these ferocious eaters.
