Interesting Facts About PachyCephalosaurus and Gorgosaurus

Pachycephalosaurus and Gorgosaurus occupy the extreme ends of the food chain with the former being a herbivore and the latter being carnivorous in nature. It would be nice to think of a situation where these two magnificent creatures come for a face-off. It would probably be among one of the historic fights- a fight between a Gorgosaurus and a Pachycephalosaurus. However, the answer might be quite obvious among paleontologist and other dinosaur enthusiasts, let us get on to some quick facts about each of them.

Pachycephalosaurus

Famous for its large head, this dinosaur had a rather smaller brain as compared to its fellow dinosaur species indicating low intelligence.

A medium-sized dinosaur with a bulky body roughly 18 feet long with a little over 10 feet tall tail with a weight of around 4000 pounds.

Narrow face with small muzzle leading to a pointed beak.

The dom-shaped head had a very thick skull (more than 9 inches thick) with a snout covered in wart-like knobs and a fringe of dull spikes measuring 5 inches in length.

Short forelimbs with five-fingered hands and three-toed feet; long heavy and rigid tail; a fairly short yet thick neck

A herbivore that lived off low growing berries, seeds, leaves, and other soft vegetation. Another interesting feature is its small sharp serrated teeth that aided the chewing of fibrous and tough plants.

They are assumed to be slow movers and bipedal in nature. Rather than moving upright, it held its back level to the ground.

They were the last non-avian dinosaurs to have existed

Gorgosaurus

A genus of tyrannosaurid theropod mostly existed around the late cretaceous period (76 million years ago). A genus of the large carnivorous - Tyrannosaurus Rex, it walked on two hind legs with two really short forelimbs.

These were 9 meters tall and weighed around 2.5 metric tonnes.

Interestingly, this species of dinosaurs spend half of their lives in the juvenile stage to undergo a quick growth spurt to adulthood.

The bite force of 42,000 newtons makes their teeth highly popular among researchers and collectors. Often, these people are looking for Gorgosaurus teeth for sale due to the value attached to it.

It’s really wondrous to think about that once upon a time in history these majestic creatures walked the surface of the earth. Apart from that, it is always an exhilarating experience to think of the mystery that still exists around their survival despite endless studies and excavation projects.
