Decoding the Mystery Behind the Popularity of Otodus Teeth

Otodus obliquus, previously known as Lamna obliqua, is quite popular among research scientists and shark experts. It is fair to say that this ancestral species is a celebrity equivalent of Pierce Brosnan. Although this extinct species of mackerel shark is nowhere near the biggest shark (C. Megalodon), the Otodus is still bigger than any modern carnivorous shark. Once a heavy contender among the predator sharks, most shark biologists and scientists look for otodus teeth for sale.

The teeth of the otodus species are highly known for a wide triangular crown and large side cusps that often tend to be on multiple sides. Another interesting fact about their teeth is that the large sets of teeth aren’t easy to locate. These teeth are most prevalent in the phosphate pits of the Atlas mountains in Morocco. One of the reasons why researchers and shark biologists wish to study their teeth is because of their evolutionary link to megatoothed sharks. There are studies indicating that megatoothed sharks like Carcharoceles auriculatus have evolved from them. This is primarily due to the presence of serrations that appeared first in them along the edges of their teeth.

While getting otodus teeth for sale, it is quite common for the teeth to get broken or damaged due to crude extraction. Most teeth lose one or more side cusps or roots on extraction. These broken cusps although reattached are often poorly repaired. Previously known as Lamna Obliqua, otodus is one of the earliest giant sharks. Likewise, the lineage further indicates that it might be the ancestor of the present mackerel sharks. The largest mackerel to have existed on the face of the earth- Megalodon, is supposed to be one of the Otodus Obliquus’s descendants. Another interesting fact reveals that the megalodon was out-competed by another powerful descendant of the same parent, namely, the Isurus hastalis. The descendants of the formerly mentioned species include the current rulers of the water terrain, the Mako and the Great White.
