Useful Information And Facts About The Tyrannosaurus Rex

Apart from being one of the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex , which is popularized by the name T-Rex in pop culture, is the dinosaur that has notably received the most media exposure all around the globe. It became more popular to the masses when the movie “Jurassic Park"was released. In this movie, T-Rex had one of the most important roles. It also has a famous exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, which is located in NYC.

The name Tyrannosaurus rex literally translates to "King of the tyrant lizards.""Tyranno" means tyrant (Greek),"Saurus" means lizard (Greek), and "Rex" means "King"(Latin). It was in the year 1905, when Henry Fairfield Osborn, who was the then president of the American Museum of Natural History made a historic decision at the time andgave the behemoth the name Tyrannosaurus rex.

T-Rex are member of the Tyrannosauroidea family, where all the members aregiant predatory dinosaurs with small arms and they have just twofingers on their hands. Tyrannosaurus rex tooth and its other parts in the form of fossils can be found in western North America. But many researchers believe that this creature was an invasive species from Asia. An analysis of the skeletal features of this giant creature revealed that it was similar to two other Tyrannosaurs that were present in Asia, and not to any of the Tyrannosaurs present in North America. It may also be possible that the paleo beast crossed over some 70 million years ago when the seaway between North America and Asia receded.
