A Few Interesting Facts About Megalodon You Must Know About

Many experts believe Megalodon was the largest prehistoric shark known to have existed on earth. It is also seen as the largest marine predator in the history of the planet, outweighing both Great White Shark and ancient reptiles such as Kronosaurus. Having said that, here are some more interesting Megalodon facts — the long-gone fish.

Megalodon grew in length to around 60 cm. A fully grown adult is predicted to have been 55 to 60 feet in length and weighed close to 75 tons. Some of the older people might even have been bigger than that.

These behemoths used to mumble on giant whales and had the most powerful morsel of any creature that ever lived on the face of the earth. This was demonstrated in the year 2008 when a joint research group of Australian and US people used computer simulations to estimate the biting prowess of a Megalodon.

The teeth of Megalodon were more than 7 "in length. That's why they're called a "giant tooth." In various reputed museums, you can find Megalodon shark skeletons and see for yourself how gigantic they actually were.

Nobody has yet, surprisingly, been able to find out the reason for the extinction of these giant sharks. Some say they have been doomed by global cooling, which has taken place in the Ice Age, others say they still exist at the bottom of the ocean, away from any human intervention possible.
