Some Interesting Facts About Mammoth

Known for being connected to today’s elephants, mammoths did not look much different from their present cousins. The only difference, a big one though, is that they had a thick coat of hair, which was of brown color. Their ears were even fur lined. They had such coating because they needed to stay warm in their home, which was in the Arctic plains. You can get mammoth tooth for sale online at great prices.

Below are a few facts about this prehistoric animal. Let’s take a look at them.

Often people assume that these ancient creatures were big. But this isn’t true as a
male mammoth had a shoulder height of about 9 to 11 feet and its weight was about
6 tons. The Steppe mammoth was its cousin and it is estimated that it had a height of
about 15 feet.

In comparison to modern elephants, the mammoth’s ear were rather shorter. Short
ears and covered with thick coat of hair was a sort of adaptation for the area in which
they lived, which was cold.

Ice age humans definitely had a close relationship with mammoth. This has become
evident through the cave drawings that have been discovered in the Rouffignac cave
in France. The cave has 158 depictions of mammoth.

The first mammoth skeleton was found in 1799. It was put together by Wilhelm
Gottlieb Tilesius and it was the first skeleton to be reconstructed but only one error
was made. Wilhelm had placed the tusks in the wrong sockets.
