The Araucaria trees
The trees are majestic evergreens, with seemingly whorled branches and stiff, flattened, sharp leaves. In some kinds, the leaves are tightly protruding, which give the branches a scaly appearance. The plants are usually dioecious, which means that male and female cones are produced on separate individuals. The female cones are generally globose in shape, and the seeds of some species are edible.
