Anzu Wyliei : A Fascinating Dinosaur Species That Went Extinct

A genus of caenagnathine dinosaur, Anzu wyliei is one of the most talked-about species that went extinct 66 million years ago, in the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event—along with many other dinosaur species. Anzu is considered as a winged or minor deity in various Mesopotamian mythologies. The scientific name Anzu wyliei was given to the “monster  species to underscore their unique appearance, presence of feathers, and large hand claws. Anzu claws for sale, in particular, are very popular among fossil collectors. Although the exact function of Anzu’s straight claws is still not clear, studies show they helped the dinosaurs in grasping objects, or to prevent themselves from danger.

It can be said from the long, powerful hind legs of Anzu that it was an excellent runner, pretty much like the present-day ostriches or emus. Anzu had no teeth and the jaws were covered by a beak, which is why the diet of the dinosaur still remains a mystery. The structure of the jaw joint shows that Anzus were capable of moving their mandible back and forth. Some experts also believe that this jaw motion might have helped the species cut food by keeping it between the upper and lower halves of the beak.

Studies on Anzu wyliei show that continued exploration in long-studied rocks close to home can still yield phenomenal discoveries. As of now, we know very little about these creatures and there is so much we need to learn about these fascinating species and the worlds they inhabited and shaped.
